How to Use This Calculator Step by Step
This free fuel gas price calculator helps you find out how much money you will spend on gas for your road trip. Just fill in the boxes on the left side and the results will show up automatically on the right side. No need to press any button!
Step 1: Pick Your Currency
First, choose your country and currency from the dropdown list. There are 25 currencies to pick from, like US Dollar, Euro, British Pound, Indian Rupee, and many more. The calculator will use your currency symbol everywhere in the results.
Step 2: Choose Your Distance Unit
Select whether you want to measure distance in Miles or Kilometers. Pick whichever one you are comfortable with.
Step 3: Enter Your Trip Distance
Type in how far you are planning to travel. Then choose if it is a One Way trip or a Round Trip. If it is a round trip, the calculator will automatically double the distance for you.
Step 4: Enter Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency
Type in how many miles or kilometers your car can travel on one gallon or liter of fuel. You can choose from four units: MPG, KPL, KPG, or L/100km. Check your car manual or dashboard if you are not sure about this number.
Step 5: Enter Your Tank Size
Type in how big your car’s fuel tank is. Then select whether the size is in Gallons or Liters. The calculator will use this to tell you how many times you need to stop and refill your tank on the trip.
Step 6: Enter the Current Gas Price
Type in the price of gas at your local station. The calculator already shows your currency symbol next to this field so you always know which currency you are using.
Step 7: Add Extra Distance (Optional)
If you think you might drive a little extra during your trip, like taking a detour or going out for food, you can add that extra distance here. This is completely optional.
Step 8: Split the Cost (Optional)
Going on a trip with family or friends? Type in the total number of people sharing the fuel cost. The calculator will divide the total cost equally and show you how much each person needs to pay.
Reading Your Results
Once you fill in the details, look at the right side of the calculator. You will see:
- The Total Fuel Cost in a big green box — this is the most important number
- Total Fuel Needed — how many gallons or litres of gas your trip will use
- Total Distance — the full distance including any extra miles you added
- Tank Refills — how many times you will need to stop for gas
- Cost Per Person — only shows up when you are splitting with more than one person
At the bottom you will also find a Step-by-Step Calculation section that shows you exactly how the calculator worked out all the numbers using simple math formulas.
